We all deserve to treat ourselves and indulge in some good food. The best-kept secret burger joint, The Habit Burger Grill, was voted Best Tasting Burger in America in 2014.
I know what you’re thinking: Kelly, why are you posting about burgers on the blog? You’ve seen some of my food posts, so you know that I’m all about trying different restaurants.
The most recent blog feature with Megan Ware focused on confidence in nutrition and forgetting about the scale, so I indulged and tried out the Habit Burger Grill!
The History
The Habit Burger Grill was established in 1969 in Santa Barbara, California. A 16-year-old boy named Brent Reichard got his first job at the Habit.
Brent and his brother, Bruce, bought the burger establishment a few years later, and it expanded from there. The Habit slogan is “There’s no substitute for quality!”
Stainless steel charbroilers make the magic happen. Chefs grill the 100% fresh ground beef on an open flame, and freshly toast the burger buns.
The burgers are served delicately wrapped in paper to maintain the shape. I really liked the paper so I didn’t worry about the burger falling apart!
The Habit serves up their famous charburgers at more than 220 locations now. They’re in 11 states and 2 international locations.
You can find the Habit in the following states: California, Arizona, Utah, New Jersey, Florida, Idaho, Virginia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Washington and Maryland.
I visited two locations: Winter Park and Millenia in Central Florida.
The Ambiance
Sleek, modern deco surrounds the restaurant. From Third Eye Blind to Florida Georgia Line, the restaurant plays a variety of music.
With the restaurant’s California roots, bright watercolor artwork line the walls from Maui artist Linda Ryan. The Habit offers indoor and outdoor seating (when it’s not crazy hot out!).

Window booths allowed plenty of beautiful natural light to flow in, while high-top seating and longer dining style tables lined the room, perfect for everyone.
Families, couples, and gym-goers all found a nice spot at the restaurant.

The Burgers
I had no idea what to expect as far as the food quality goes, so I went into the Habit open-minded! And man, I am glad I tried it.
For my first round, I went to the Millenia location and tried the BBQ Bacon Charburger.
WOW! The bacon was nice and crispy, the beef was delicious, wrapped in lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and pickles. I skipped the onions because I’m not a fan – I know I will get some eye rolls on that one! But the burger nearly melted in my mouth.
I tried the burger meal, which included fries and a fountain drink. The fries were great – fresh and crispy. I substituted the fountain drink for a fresh mocha shake to get the full experience.
Again…WOW! The food really hit the spot on such a hot Florida summer day!
For round two, I visited the Habit Burger Grill in Winter Park on a separate weekend. I really enjoyed the lighting and ambiance of Winter Park (yes, lighting is a factor for me!).
I tried the Original Charburger this time around. The burger was great, perfectly intact thanks to the paper wrapping.
The service was great at both Habit restaurants. The staff was friendly and
As far as the location and visit goes, Millenia is the winner here! The BBQ Bacon Charburger was amazing, the shake hit the spot, the inside was really spacious, and the location is very convenient – close to the mall, Target, HomeGoods, and a beautiful lake down the street.
The Habit Burger Grill offers more than burgers – they also serve grilled sandwiches, hand-cut salads, sweet potato fries, onion rings, and more!
Check out the Habit
I definitely recommend trying the Habit Burger Grill! A hot day, a hungry day, any day when you’re in the mood for a great burger, the Habit really hits the spot!
